Sydney Test: India try to steady first innings against Australia

On Day 3 of the Sydney Cricket Test, India were 144 for two in the first innings against Australia, when reports last came in. India still trail by 428 runs. They are replying to Australia's first innings score of 572 for 7 declared.Team India resumed play this morning at the overnight score of 71 for 1, with Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul in the middle. Rohit scored a half century before he was bowled by Nathan Lyon on 53. Rahul, who ably supported Rohit, scored his maiden Test fifty and was still at the crease.Opener Murali Vijay was the Indian wicket which fell yesterday. He was out for a duck off paceman Mitchell Starc in the opening over of the Indian innings.With victory in the first two Tests and a draw in the third, the hosts have already won the 4-match series.
