Switzerland welcomes release of Embassy employee in Sri Lanka

<span style="color: #222222;">Switzerland has welcomed the release of a Swiss Embassy employee in Colombo on bail saying it hopes for a swift return to an environment conducive to resuming the positive cooperation between Switzerland and Sri Lanka. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">A diplomatic note from the s embassy from Colombo said that in the last few weeks, this relationship was marred by misunderstandings surrounding the incident. It said that uncorroborated facts made it into the public domain, putting an unnecessary strain on the otherwise cordial relationship between the two countries. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The statement came as there was a stalemate in relations between the two countries after a local embassy employee had complained of abduction but investigations later had cast doubts over her claim. She was subsequently taken into arrest and was released on bail yesterday after hectic diplomatic negotiations.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> Swiss embassy said at no point during this time did Switzerland have the intention of tarnishing the image of the government of Sri Lanka. It regretted that the developments have led to the Sri Lankan authorities' commitment to due process being called into question and reaffirmed that it is committed to upholding good governance and the rule of law. Recognizing that local staff is subject to local laws, the embassy said it is convinced that both sides will remain attentive to the working conditions and the wellbeing of all staff of diplomatic missions. </span><br />
