Sweltering heat continues in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, the sweltering heat continues to disrupt normal life throughout the state. The temperature has gone up to 5 degrees above normal in most of the places. <br/>Jhansi in Bundelkhand remained the hottest place during last 24 hours with mercury shooting up to 46.4 degrees Celsius. Varanasi recorded a highest temperature of 45.2 degrees while Allahabad recorded 45 degrees. In rest of the places, the maximum temperature hovered between 39 and 44 degrees. At least three persons have lost their lives due to heat wave in last 24 hours. One tourist from Hyderabad died in Taj complex in Agra succumbing to heat wave. One each died in Ghazipur and Mirzapur districts. <br/>AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the scarcity of drinking water and fodder prevails in many places including Bundelkhand and hilly areas of Vindhyachal region. <br/>The state is also facing acute power shortage due to increased demand. Two power stations in Obra and Anpara have tripped due to technical snag. Districts are facing twelve to sixteen hours’ power cut. <br/>The met office has predicted the current situation to prevail during next two days. The sky is hazy in Agra, Allahabad and Lucknow.<br/>
