External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has directed the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan to look into the case of a hearing and speech impaired Indian woman who has been stranded in the neighboring country for 15 years. In a tweet today, Ms Swaraj said, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr TCA Raghavan will go to Karachi and meet the woman. The Minister was responding to a tweet from rights activist and Pakistan's former human rights minister Ansar Burney, who has launched a campaign to reunite the woman with her family in India.

The women named as Geeta apparently entered Lahore on a train from India 15 years ago. She was found by police and sent to a state-run shelter. She now lives with Bilqees Edhi, wife of Abdul Sattar Edhi, founder of Pakistan's largest charity Edhi Foundation.
