Suu Kyi calls on Meira Kumar in Parl

Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi today called on Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in Parliament House this afternoon. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral ties and other issues of mutual interest. She also signed the visitor's diary in Parliament. Asked by reporters later how she felt being back after 25 years, Suu Kyi said, she felt much at home. Suu Kyi also planted a sapling of Magnolia Grandiflora commonly known as Champa in the Parliament premises. Speaker Meira Kumar said she felt honoured and proud to welcome the Myanmarese leader in Parliament.
Earlier in the day, Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi called on Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari. The pro-democracy leader had met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday and discussed the process of national reconciliation and democratisation in her country. She also delivered the presitigoius Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture. This is her first visit to the counrty in a quarter century. Suu Kyi is on a five-day visit to India.
