In Thailand, two suspected militants have been killed in a shootout with police in Yala province. Police said about 50 police officers and soldiers surrounded a house where the militants were plotting attacks, triggering a gunfight that lasted for several hours. A police corporal was shot and wounded during the operation. Thailand this month extended emergency rule in three troubled southern provinces near the border with Malaysia until October.
