The members of National Disaster Management Authority, NDMA, will hold discussions with senior government officials of Assam this evening at Guwahati. Official sources said that the V K Duggal, member of the NDMA will analyse the situation to improve the existing early warning, preparedness response and mitigation systems for future and what assistance can be provided by the government in this regard. K M Singh, another member of the Authority will meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi later today. Another member of the NDMA, Dr Muzzafar Ahmed is also attending a meeting organised by National Rural Health Mission . At least 125 people died in flood and landslides in the state during April to July this year. The flood water affected around 20 lakh people. The flood wave also affected two lakh 55 thousand hectares of cropland. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited Upper Assam and announced an ad-hoc package of 500 crore rupees for relief and rehabilitation. Assam government has sought 13 thousand crore rupees package from the Centre for rehabilitation.
