In Assam, at least 11 persons were killed and eight injured when suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants fired indiscriminately at Dimajuli in Bihali Reserve Forest area in Sonitpur district on Sunday evening.Police sources said, the heavily armed motor cycle-borne militants belonging to the anti-talk faction of the NDFB came to the spot at around 7.30 pm and opened firing at some shops. Reports said, the militants had earlier demanded ransom from the businessmen and the attack was aimed at punishing them for their failure to pay. After committing the crime, the militants escaped under the cover of darkness. The injured have been admitted to nearby civil hospitals at Biswanath Chariali and Tezpur. Police and Para-military forces have launched a massive combing operation to apprehend the culprits.
