External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Kumaratunga and former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai in New Delhi yesterday. They discussed a host of bilateral and regional issues in one-on-one meetings. The visiting leaders are in New Delhi to attend the ongoing Raisina Dialogue focusing on Asia's physical, economic and digital connectivity. <br/><br/>External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that Bangladesh is a valued neighbour and an important friend of India. Speaking at the dialogue, Mr. Ali had earlier said relations between India and Bangladesh are at their best now.<br/><br/>Talking about Mr. Karzai' visit, Mr Swarup referred to him as an old friend paying a call. In his address, Mr Karzai called India Afghanistan's best friend and identified terrorism as major challenge facing the nation.<br/><br/>Sri Lankan leader Chandrika Kumaratunga said national security concerns should compel the regional players to cooperate with each other. It would help in effectively dealing with challenge of terrorism and violent politicized extremism, she said.
