Sushma Swaraj denies extending undue help to Lalit Modi to travel abroad

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today charged the Opposition with making baseless and untrue allegations against her in the former IPL Chief Lalit Modi's controversy. She denied charges of extending undue help to Lalit Modi to travel abroad. <br/><br/>Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Mrs Swaraj said she had never requested the British authorities for arranging travel documents to Lalit Modi. <br/><br/>She clarified that only a message was sent to the British Government on humanitarian grounds asking them to examine whether they can help Lalit Modi in a manner that will not strain the relations between New Delhi and London.<br/><br/>Referring to media reports, she said the British Government itself made it clear that the travel documents were given to Lalit Modi within the purview of the law of their land. She reiterated that she did not play any role in making the British Government to give travel documents to Lalit Modi.<br/><br/>Making an emotional speech, the Minister said she had done for helping Lalit Modi's wife who was suffering from Cancer for the past 17 years. She alleged that she was not given a chance to make a statement with respect to whole issue in the House for the last two weeks.
