Sushma on two-day official visit to Sri Lanka to participate in second IOC 2017

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from tomorrow to participate in the second Indian Ocean Conference-IOC 2017. <br/><br/>Foreign Secretary Dr. S. Jaishankar along with a delegation of other senior officials reached Colombo today for the two-day conference. <br/><br/>During her visit, the External Affairs Minister will also call on Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime minister Ranil Wickremsinghe. The conference will see participation from around 35 countries. The theme of the conference is Peace, Progress and Prosperity for the Indian Ocean Region.<br/> '<br/>It will deliberate on freedom of navigation and over-flights, collective counter terrorism efforts and anti piracy cooperation, strengthening bilateral and multilateral institutional networks, domestic political institutions, educational and cultural activities. <br/><br/>The conference will also deliberate on the possibility of establishing a common Parliament for the countries of the Indo-Pacific Region on the lines of the European Parliament. <br/><br/>The conference is being organised by India Foundation with its partner S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Singapore. The first IOR conference was held in Singapore last year.
