Union Minster for Railway Suresh Prabhu today announced the establishment of "George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology" in a function at Panaji. The proposed Institute of Tunnel Technology will be established at Madgaon in South Goa district under Konkan Railway Corporation Limited. Konkan Railway has completed 25 years and is celebrating Silver Jubilee. The proposed institute will be the first of its kind in the country.<br/><br/>While speaking on the occasion, Mr Prabhu praised the efforts of former Railway Minister and said Konkan Railway was the dream of Mr George Fernandes, who was the driving force behind the Konkan Railway project.<br/><br/>The objectives of this Tunnel Technology Institute will be a depository of knowledge, experience and data for tunnels and underground structures to provide training of tunnel technology and consultancy services for tunnels and underground construction. Konkan Railway has rich and vast expertise in this field.
