Suresh Prabhu announces elevated corridors for Mumbai local trains

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said today the railways will soon construct two elevated corridors from key South Mumbai stations to the farthest point Virar on Western line and Panvel on Harbour line, thus increasing connectivity to the areas. He added that all required permissions for corridors between Churchgate station and Virar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Panvel will be completed by August 15. He was speaking at the inauguration of Foot over Bridge (FoB) at Vile Parle station in Mumbai this morning. Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for the FoB at Khar Road Station.<br/><br/> Mr. Prabhu reiterated that soon integrated ticket service will be started so that commuters can use for modes of transport on single ticket. About making drinking water available, he said the new water vending machine at Khar station will have water bottles priced at Rs. 5 as against Rs. 15 for bottled water sold earlier. He also said besides, the water sold on station at railway kiosks too is tested and purified water. About the cleanliness at stations, he said that more and more 'A' grade toilets would be constructed at railways stations. <br/><br/>He added railways was mulling constructing three new terminals at suburbs on Western line in Mumbai. Mumbai Mayor Ms. Snehal Ambekar lauded the efforts of Railways Ministry and its intent to take up projects on priority. The programmes were attended by BJP MP Ms. Poonam Mahajan, BJL MLA Mr. Ashish Shelar and Railways General Manager Mr. Agrawal.
