Supreme Court seeks Attorney General's response on plea on national Anthem

Supreme Court today sought Attorney General's response on plea seeking playing of national anthem in all courts including apex court and high courts before start of proceedings. The Apex Court added that its order on national anthem should not be overstretched.

The Supreme Court had on last Wednesday directed that the national anthem be played in cinema halls across the country before the screening of a film. A bench, led by Justice Dipak Misra, issued guidelines on the national anthem, saying that people in cinema halls should stand up when the anthem is played and the National Flag be shown on the screen at the time. The court, however, clarified that the differently-abled would be exempt.

The apex court directed the Centre that the order should be provided effect in a week's time and be circulated to all the States and Union Territories. The court's order came on a PIL, filed by an NGO, that alleged misuse of the anthem in TV shows or movies.
