Supreme Court is likely to pronounce today the verdict on the decades-old Cauvery water dispute between riparian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Security has been tightened in Bengaluru in view of this. <br/><br/>Speaking to reporters, Bengaluru police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said 15,000 police personnel would be deployed, particularly in the sensitive areas of the city. In addition to this, personnel of Karnataka State Reserved Police and other forces would also be deployed.<br/>A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud had on 20th September last year reserved the verdict on the appeals filed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala against the 2007 award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal on sharing of water. <br/><br/>Karnataka claims that the water left in Krishnaraja Sagar dam is sufficient only to cater to Bengaluru. Karnataka is waiting with baited breath the outcome of Cauvery verdict in the Supreme Court today. A high alert has been declared in Cauvery basin areas. Karnataka has questioned the Tribunal's decision of February 2007, that allocated just 270 tmc feet water to Karnataka. <br/><br/>It has claimed that the Tribunal did not take distress formula into account during monsoon failures. It was also contended that needs of Bengaluru city were not considered while allocating the water share. <br/><br/>The state is also against setting up of the Cauvery Water Management Board. The verdict today is likely to address all these issues. <br/>
