Super Typhoon Megi makes landfall in Northern Philippines

In Philippines, Super Typhoon Megi has made landfall in the northern parts of the country. The super typhoon lashed the area with heavy rain and winds of more than 225 km per hour. Thousands of people in the path of storm Megi have fled their homes.Emergency services have been put on high alert. Power supply has been cutting off power and airlines were forced to cancel some flights. Megi is likely to weaken slightly as it makes its way across the northern Philippines. It is the 10th and strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year. It is heading westwards with winds of 225 kph. The typhoon, known locally as Juan, has the potential to damage or destroy up to 60 percent of the rice crop in the main island Luzon's Cagayan valley, which produces about a third of the country's rice.
