Downplaying the threat of NDM1 Super bug in the National Capital, Delhi Government today said that the prevalence of this infection is very low and it cannot be termed as alarming. Delhi Health Minister Dr A.K Walia said this while chairing a high level meeting with officials of Health Department and other City Hospitals in the wake of the reported prevalence of NDM1 infection in city hospitals. He said that a very low prevalence of NDM1 infection exist as confirmed in test conducted in ICUs of hospitals including RML Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. He said, however no infection has been reported in water and sewerage flow in Delhi. Dr Walia said it is a worldwide phenomenon and occurrence of such infection was found in most of the countries including South East Asia and Eastern Europe. The Health minister also underlined the need of rational use of antibiotics and directed the hospitals to activate their infection control committees
