Sundar Pichai, CEO Google held a talk on technology and impact of AI at World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday. He said that AI is the most important thing humanity has ever worked on. AI offers a different construct on things that look like zero sum game today and may not be in future. Things like education getting benefitted from resolving resource constraints. Similarly cleaner renewable energy could be harnessed in a cost effective manner.
”
” Defending AI on being alleged on potential use as weapon of mass destruction, he said that AI is kind of an equaliser. It is tough to weaponize it because everyone will have the same ability back. Talking about the downside of AI he said that learning a new technology has to always be done with harnessing the benefit and minimising the downsize.
” He also said that we have to think ahead in this parlance. From day 1 things like AI safety and ethical dilemmas have to be taken into account.
” Sundar Pichai calls for global multilateral frameworks like G7 and G20 to avoid AI leading us into a totalitarian society. He does not think that quality of content as in hate speeches, on the platform should be decided unilaterally. But he is inclined on taking inputs from the society and drawing the line for freedom of speech. Pichai said they have made progress in dealing with violent extremism by engaging NGOs and counter-terrorist groups.
