Sunanda Pushkar's death caused by poisoning: Delhi Police

Delhi Police today registered a case of murder against unknown persons in the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of former Union Minister, Shashi Tharoor. The Police said the medical report has confirmed that the death was unnatural and caused by poisoning.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Police Commissioner B S Bassi said that the report indicated that Sunanda died of poison which could have been either consumed orally or given through injection. Mr. Bassi did not rule out the possibility of questioning Mr. Tharoor saying all concerned persons will be questioned in the case.

Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor said that he is stunned by the filing of FIR by Delhi police in the case. In a Facebook post, he demanded thorough investigation in the case so that the truth comes out. Mr. Tharoor also demanded details on the basis of which the police concluded that Sunanda Pushkar was poisoned.

On the other hand, Congress is sensing political angle in the case. Party leader Rashid Alvi questioned the considerable delay in filing the FIR.
The BJP came down heavily on the Congress for questioning the FIR and seeing political angle in it.

Talking to AIR, party spokesperson Nalin Kohli said why Congress is worried over the investigation if it had done nothing wrong. He said the case will be investigated by the police and not by the BJP and raising doubt on it shows the opposition party's habit of questioning every thing. Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a hotel in Delhi in January last year in mysterious circumstances.
