Summit talks between PM & Kazakhstan President ends

The summit talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev ended in the presidential palace at Astana in Kazakhastan. Dr. Singh will hold talks later today with his Kazakh counterpart Karim Massimov. Enhancing partnership in energy, business cooperation, science and technology is high on the agenda in the talks between the Prime Minister and the leadership of Kazaklhstan. Cooperation in space programme, health, education and pharma sectors will also figure prominently in the discussions. The talks will also focus on international North South Transport Corridor project as its implementation will help enhance bilateral trade. The Agreements which are likely to be signed after Dr. Singh’s talks with his Kazakh counterpart include Inter governmental frame work agreement on civil nuclear cooperation. Pacts in the fields of Health, Agriculture, Culture, IT and Mutual cooperation on legal assistance are also expected to be signed. The Prime Minister reached Astana last evening on the second leg of his two nation visit. Our correspondent covering the Prime Minister’s visit reports that the two leaders are expected to unveil a roadmap for development of their strategic partnership in the joint statement to be issued after the discussions. The roadmap may spell out how the two countries intend to take their relations in the future. Kazakhstan is in favour multiple channels of transporting hydrocarbons from the landlocked country to India. The proposed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project can prove an important channel.
