Annual Conference of Presiding Officers and Secretaries of Legislative bodies will begin from today at Gujarat State Assembly in Gandhingar. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will formally inaugurate the two-day conference. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel will be the Chief Guest during the opening ceremony. <br/><br/>Briefing media persons at State Assembly Secretariat in Gandhinagar yesterday, Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Ganpat Sinh Vasava said the conference will deliberate on various issues concerning parliamentary democracy. <br/><br/>Around 350 delegates across the country are likely to participate in the annual conference. These include Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Speakers and Deputy Speakers of all the Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils as well as secretaries will participate in this event. <br/><br/>The main objective of this conference is to establish direct dialogue between the presiding officers of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and other legislative bodies in the country. These delegates will engage in discussions to bring about positive changes in various legislative and parliamentary procedures. <br/><br/>The conference will also discuss the issues related to attendance of MPs and MLAs and improve the quality of discussions in the house.<br/>This is the 78th annual Conference, which was started in 1921. <br/><br/>Gujarat is hosting this conference for the third time. Earlier this conference was held in Gujarat during the year of 1973 and 1992. All India Radio will broadcast the inaugural ceremony of the conference from 9.55 onwards today.
