The election for the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will take place today. Talking to reporters , Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said that the process of filing of nomination forms had already begun yesterday afternoon. He said Sumitra Mahajan is a formidable candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.

Senior BJP leader Sumitra Mahajan yesterday filed her nomination papers for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Santosh Gangwar said that Mahajan's name has been proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from 19 different political parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party, AIADMK, BJD and all NDA allies.

Our correspondent reports that she is all set to be elected unopposed for the post. Mrs. Mahajan is an eight time MP from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
