Indian pugilists, Sumit Sangwan and Manpreet Singh, have made it to the semi-final round of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan. In the 81 kilogram category, Sumit Sangwan defeated reigning Asian champion Kim Hyeong Kyu of Korea 22-12, making his way into the last four. To ensure an Olympics berth, Sumit must beat Ihab Almatdault of Jordan in the semi-finals, which is slated to take place on Wednesday.Meanwhile in the 91 kilogram category, Manpreet Singh defeated Borbashev Chingis of Kyrgyzstan. Manpreet was leading 8-4 in the second round, when the fight was stopped and Manpreet was declared the winner. For a Olympics berth, Manpreet must go all the way and scale the summit of the heavy weight section. Manpreet is scheduled to play his semi-final match against Ali Mazaheri of Iran on Wednesday.Today, Shiva Thapa will take on Worapoj Petchkoon of Thailand in the quarterfinals of the 56 kilogram category.
