Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: India to take on Australia

India will take on world champions Australia in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016 at Ipoh in Malaysia today. In its opening encounter yesterday, India defeated Japan 2-1. Initially Japan took the early lead, as in the second quarter Kenji scored to make the scoreline 1-0. It was, however, short lived as Harmanpreet Singh sounded board to make it 1-1 before half time. Heading in the third quarter India took lead from Captain Saradar Singh's goal in the 31st minute, to make the score line 2-1 and maintained that lead till the end. In another fixtures today, New Zealand will play against Canada and Japan will clash against Malaysia. This is the 25th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and has India, Pakistan, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan battling it out for the prestigious title. The event will serve as a barometer to measure the team's preparation for the Rio Olympics in August. India, Canada, New Zealand and Australia have already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics and they will use this tournament as practice ahead of the mega event. India has had a good run in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup winning the annual event five times in 1985, 1991, 1995, 2009 and 2010, earning bronze on six occasions and finishing runners-up once in 2008.
