Sukma Maoist attack: Chhattisgarh Govt orders high-level probe

The Chhattisgarh Government has ordered a high-level departmental inquiry into the Maoist attack in Sukma district, in which 16 people, including 15 security personnel, were killed yesterday.

Additional Director General of Police, Naxal Operations, R.K. Vij will lead the inquiry that will focus on various security aspects.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh last night. State Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra, Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand, DGP A.N. Upadhyay and other senior officers attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister said that this act has once again revealed the brutal and inhuman face of the Maoists. He instructed the state police to be alert and take effective steps on a war footing to nab the criminals.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is scheduled to visit Jagdalpur divisional headquarters of Bastar today to take stock of the situation and review the security arrangements.

State Governor Shekhar Dutt and Chief Minister Raman Singh will also accompany Mr. Shinde at Jagdalpur, where they will pay homage to the slain security personnel. The Home Minister will have a meeting with senior officers of the state police and central forces to review the security preparedness.
