Sukma abduction: Centre in touch with Chhatisgarh govt

The Centre is constantly in touch with the Chhatisgarh government on the abduction of Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon by the Naxals. Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi, that the Home secretary is constantly following the matter with the Chief Secretary and the DGP of the State.

He said, the two interlocuters who met the CPI Maoists have returned and informed the Chief Minister that the adbducted collector is safe and the medicines have reached him. Mr. Chidambaram also said the Centre has also offered all assistance. He said the matter is being dealt by the State.

The Home minister also termed it as unfortunate, that the District Collector who was doing his duty, was abducted by the Maoists while he was addressing a Gram Saba.
Speaking on the National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC, the Home Minster said, fighting terror is a shared resposibility.

He said, two Standard Operating Protocols (SOP) have been circulated to the states, and suggestions if any will be incorporated as far as possible.
