In Russia, a suicide bomb blast injured six people in the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya today. Police said a woman suicide bomber detonated an explosive near a traffic police car at a busy crossroads in central Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, injuring six people. The police source earlier said several people are believed to have been killed in the explosion. The troubled North Caucasus republics have seen a rise in violence in recent months with attacks on police, officials and troops and special operations against militants being reported almost daily. In April, Russia formally ended an anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya, which has experienced two bloody wars in the past 15 years.
