A suicide bomber blew himself up at a military checkpoint in northwest Pakistan's volatile tribal region today, killing 12 people including two soldiers. Senior administration official Iqbal Khattak said a man wearing a vest packed with explosives walked up to the post in Khar, the main town in the restive tribal region of Bajaur, and detonated himself. <br/><br/>He said so far, 12 deaths have been confirmed, two of them were paramilitary soldiers, adding that more than 20 others, all civilians, were wounded. Khattak said three vehicles and four shops were destroyed in the bombing. A senior military official confirmed the blast and casualties. He said the man wanted to proceed towards nearby government buildings and military barracks but the soldiers stopped him. The soldiers were killed when the attacker blew himself up. The checkpoint is in the town's main bazaar which was shut after the blast.
