In Afghanistan, ten policemen and a child have been killed in a suicide attack in the southern city of Lashkar Gah. Officials said the car bomb exploded outside the heavily guarded police headquarters in the city, the capital of Helmand province. The explosion happened as a police vehicle was driving towards the front gates. Spokesman for the Helmand provincial governor, Daoud Ahmadi, said that in addition to those killed nine policemen and three civilians were injured. The Taliban said it carried out the attack. Responsibility for Lashkar Gah was recently handed to Afghan forces as part of a plan to return all security to local forces by the end of 2014.
