Suggestions invited on Bureau of Indian Standards (Amendment) Bill, 2012

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food and Consumer Affairs has sought views and suggestions from public, experts and NGOs working in the field of standardization on the Bureau of Indian Standards (Amendment) Bill, 2012. An official release said, opinions and suggestions can be sent to the office of Director, Committee on Food, Consumer affairs and Public Distribution, Lok Sabha Secretariat, either by telephone or e-mail .
Our correspondent reports, the Bill proposes to amend the Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS), 1986 to empower the Central Government, to notify any article or process which shall confirm to the Indian Standard and direct registration or grant self declaration of conformity with the BIS as compulsory.
