Sugar production during 2012-13 is likely to be sufficient enough to meet the country's domestic needs. The Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof. K.V. Thomas gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. He said as per reports from the major sugar producing States, the deficiency of rain in some areas may affect sugarcane yield resulting in reduced sugar production. But the sugar industry is upbeat about the sufficiency in output, he said.
