The sugar production in the country is estimated at 251.97 lakh tonnes in the current season. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said the country's sugar consumption is estimated at 220 lakh tonnes. He said the government has also permitted export of 1.53 lakh tonnes of sugar under EPCG
Scheme, Preferential Quota Sugar to European Union and USA and to Maldives under Bilateral Trade Agreement.
