Sugar production is estimated to be 250.46 lakh tonnes during the current sugar season. The estimate has been arrived at on the basis of first advance estimates of sugarcane production released by Ministry of Agriculture and discussion with cane commissioners of States. An official release said the estimated production would be sufficient to meet the domestic requirement during the year. The country's sugar production during the previous sugar season 2013-14 was estimated to be 245.54 lakh tonnes.
