Sugar futures prices fall 0.25 per cent

Amid weak spot demand and higher free-sale quota, sugar futures prices fell 0.25 per cent to 2,819 rupees per quintal on Monday. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in June fell by 7 rupees, or 0.25 per cent, to 2,819 rupees per quintal, with an open interest of 5,100 lots. Similarly, sugar for delivery in April also shed 3 rupees, or 0.11 per cent, to 2,684 rupees per quintal, with a business volume of 37,130 lots. The government had allocated 19.07 lakh tonnes of sugar for sale in the open market as well as through ration shops during this month.
