The Government has said that sufficient stock of sugar is available in the country. The Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ministry has said, there is expected to be an additional 70 lakh metric tonnes of sugar stock after meeting the domestic consumption of about 275 lakh metric tonnes and exports of about 61 lakh metric tonnes. It said, it is sufficient to meet domestic demand for about three months.<br />'' <br />'' The Ministry said, when international prices of sugar are at record high, domestic prices have been kept stable with the pragmatic policy interventions by the Government. It said, the average retail price of sugar in the country is about &nbsp;41.50 rupees per kilogram which is likely to remain in the range of Rs.37 to 43 per kilogram in the coming months.<br />'' <br />''The Ministry said, the financial position of many sugar mills have strengthened and as a result, cane dues to farmers have been paid in a timely manner. During Sugar Season 2021-22, sugar mills procured sugarcane worth more than 1,18,000 crore rupees and released payments of more than Rs. 1,17,000 crores for the season. According to the Ministry, more than 99.7 percent cane dues paid to farmers in the season which is the highest for any sugar season.<br />
