The government says there is no shortage of fertilizers and seeds in the country for the Rabi season. Making a statement in response to several Calling Attention notices on shortage of fertilizers, the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mr. Srikant Jena, said in the Lok Sabha yesterday that the availability of fertilizers during the Khariff season was comfortable and there were no significant complaints on the supply of fertilizers. He said his department has already finalised arrangements for making fertilizers available well in advance. The Minister said the Centre has also advised the state governments to tie up with importers and manufacturers on the supply of de-controlled fertilizers like DAP, MOP and NPK to avoid any shortage. He said adequate quantities of seeds are available at start of Rabi with a surplus of over 15 lakh quintals.
