Iran says, it has successfully launched a new type of rocket designed to carry a satellite into space. The nation's state-run media yesterday released a video of the launch, saying it took place at the national space center. <br/><br/>The media reported that the rocket can deliver a satellite weighing up to 250 kilograms into a 500-kilometer orbit. Iran successfully launched its first domestically produced satellite in 2009. The country also intends to orbit more satellites for communications and other purposes. <br/><br/>Iran also maintains its stance of continuing the development of ballistic missiles for what it claims to be self-defense purposes. Iran did not change its stance even after it agreed with 6 world powers in 2015 to curb its nuclear program in return for relief on international sanctions. <br/><br/>The United States is concerned that the development of rockets and ballistic missiles could lead to the production of long-range ballistic missiles. <br/><br/>On the 18th of this month, Washington imposed additional sanctions against entities and individuals for their involvement in Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs.
