The safeguard agreement between India and the International Atomic Agency has come into force. This paves the way for full implementation of India-US Civil Nuclear accord. India had first civil nuclear accord with France in December 2007 and Canada is the 8th country in a row showing keen interest to have nuclear commerce with India. Accords in this crucial energy area have already been signed with Russia, Mangolia, Argentina, Namibia and Kazakistan.

Meanwhile, India and the UK have agreed on the text of a landmark civil nuclear deal. Addressing a joint press conference with Commerce Minister Anand Sharma in London, Britain's Business Secretary Lord Peter Mandelson said, a formal pact may be signed within a week after ministerial approvals.
