Substantial progress made on economic blockade in Manipur

Government has said, substantial progress has been made on the issue of economic blockade in Manipur. The Centre, the representatives of the Manipur government and the agitating United Naga Council held a tripartite meeting on the issue in New Delhi yesterday. <br/><br/>The Home Ministry, in a release, said a few points needed further discussions at the organisation level. It said, the next tripartite meeting on the issue is expected to take place on Tuesday. Yesterday's meeting was convened by the Home Ministry in view of the problems faced by people in Manipur due to the economic blockade. <br/><br/>The blockade, which began on the first of November last year, has led to extreme shortage of essential commodities including food items, lifesaving drugs and motor fuel. The United Naga Council is protesting against the creation of seven new districts in the state.
