The Maharashtra government has asked companies supplying power to Mumbai to submit a roadmap on how consumer tariff can be brought on par with the government-owned utility, Mahavitran. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said he had discussed the issue with the representatives of Tata Power, Reliance Infra and BEST which supply electricity to Mumbai city and suburbs.He also welcomed the Vote on Account presented by the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Mr. Chavan said it is a courageous decision to announce power subsidies to the tune of 9,000 crore rupees to industry and agriculture, and 2500 crore rupees for implementation of the Food Security Act. He further informed that the newly announced power subsidies would put a burden of 700 crore rupees on the state exchequer.
