A high level sub-committee will be formed soon to revisit the criteria for deciding upon the states qualifying for backward status for special packages.

Disclosing this in Patna yesterday, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said, the sub-committee will be headed by Chief Economic Advisor Raghuram Rajan. It will submit its report within a month.

Asked about the chance of Bihar being in the list, Mr. Chidambaram said, Bihar will certainly qualify on the new criteria of backwardness.
