The Government today gave an assurance that no student's interest will be jeopardised because of the move to de- recognise 44 deemed universities. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said this while addressing the Social Editors Conference in New Delhi today. The students were worried following the recommendation of an expert committee headed by P N Tandon for de- recognition of the deemed Universities, The committee reviewed the functioning of 126 of the 130 deemed universities. Allaying fears, he said that the students of these institutions will get University degree and not a single student will be affected. Sibal, however, refused to elaborate as the case is under consideration of the Supreme Court.<br/><br/>The minister said no deemed university has been derecognised so far. Asked whether the unfit 44 deemed universities would be reverted back to the status of college, he said that he does not want to preempt what the Supreme Court will decide. The matter will come before the Supreme Court on January 25. He said that the government had set up a task force to suggest measures for implementing the recommendations of the committee.<br/><br/>He disclosed that an education finance corporation is on the anvil to ensure that no child is deprived of higher education for want of funds. He said the scheme will be in operation immediately after approval in the central educational institutions. He asserted that inclusive education at all levels is the priority of the government and said that 3500 schools are being set up in the most back word districts of the country with best of the facilities available in any educational institution for quality education . Besides 2500 more schools are also being set up in marginally back ward districts in private public partnership to improve quality of education. <br/><br/>The Minister urged all the stake holders to come forward to address the challenge of school drop out rate which is at an alarming level of around 50 percent. Mr. Kapil Sibal said that government plans to do away with this problem in the next four years. He said target is to increase the enrollment rate from the present over 12 percent to 30 percent by 2020.<br/><br/>The minister said that the right to education bill will be notified soon after holding discussions with the state governments and this will provide proper frame work and conducive atmosphere for the devilment of education in the country. Laying stress on quality education and research at the university level, Mr. Sibal said that it is high time that all out efforts are made to make India a knowledge economy.
