Minister of state for Home Mullappalli Ramachandran today said that there is a strong need for enacting National Fire Safety Act. He said increased industrialisation and technological advancement today make us more vulnerable to fire disaster. He was inaugurating a two day national consultation on fire services in Thiruvananthapuram.
Recalling the recent fire tragedy at AMRI hospital in Kolkotta the minister said under a centrally sponsored scheme 200 crore rupees is being spent to strengthen fire and rescue sector of the country. National Fire Service College in Nagpur is being modernised spending an amount 205 crore rupees. He urged the states to identify the gaps in the enforcement of the existing laws to further strengthen fire safety.
