The two African countries of Malawi and Tanzania have been hit by strong earthquakes causing a number of casualties. Malawi was hit by a 6.0 magnitude quake killing several people and injuring hundreds of others. The authorities have begun evacuating more than two lakh people in the worst-hit Karonga area, and appealed to the international community to supply tents and other materials. In southwestern Tanzania, a tremor measuring 6.2 magnitude was reported 130 km away from the city of Mbeya. There have been no reports of injuries and damage.
