A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit northeast Afghanistan early today. According to the US Geological Survey the epicentre of the quake shook at 12.21 a.m. local time was 77 kilometres south-southeast of Feyzabad, near the border with Tajikistan and Pakistan. The tremor was felt in Kabul, where buildings shook and electricity supplies were disrupted.
