Chief Election Commissioner Dr. S.Y. Quraishi has said today that stringent measures will be initiated to check money power particularly black money in the ensuing state assembly elections.
Dr. Quraishi who has arrived at Imphal today on a two-day visit to review poll preparedness for the forthcoming state assembly elections told media persons this evening that the seizure of 73 crores of rupees by the Commission in the recently held state assembly elections is a glaring example of its commitment to check money power in the elections.
He said, this time you will see a lot more strict action from the Election Commission to control the
money power particularly black money. We have recently set up an expenditure monitoring division in the Election Commission which we never had before.
We have some new set of guidelines which are working extremely well that is why we had seized 73 crores of rupees in the five states which went to poll not very long ago. So, you will see a lot of stringent actions.
Dr. Quraishi further said that the list of polling stations in Manipur to be covered by live webcast during the time of voting is under preparation through vulnerability mapping. He also said that the Commission is trying to cover maximum polling stations by live webcast particularly the sensitive and remote polling stations of the state.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Chief Election Commissioner along with two other Election Commissioners: V.S. Sampath and M.S. Brahma held discussions with the representatives of six political parties regarding the coming state assembly elections.
