In Pakistan, a strike is being observed in towns and cities across the country to protest against possible changes to the blasphemy laws. Public transport has been severely affected in Karachi, where demonstrators blocked traffic. The strike, called by religious parties, went ahead despite a denial from the Minister for Religious Affairs that the government is proposing to change the law, which carries a mandatory death sentence for blasphemy.
