Air India pilots have called off their 10-day strike. This follows an agreement between the Government and the pilots late on Friday to re-instate sacked and suspended pilots, restore recognition to their union and look into their complaints of irregularities. After the talks with the Government, Association president Capt A S Bhinder the told reporters that over 800 pilots, belonging to the erstwhile Indian Airlines and owing allegiance to the Indian Commercial Pilots Association will return to work. Emerging after five hours of tough negotiations with the Civil Aviation ministry officials, Bhinder along with ICPA General Secretary Rishabh Kapur claimed that the Government had agreed to look into all the alleged irregularities. The Pilots have started returning to work since Friday midnight. Booking for domestic sector has been resumed by the Airlines. A spokesman of Air India said that it might take two days to resume normal services. Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi expressed happiness over the pilots ending their stir. He said there was no ill feeling and there would be no feeling of vengeance. The minister said he was thankful to the pilots for agreeing to Government suggestions and withdrawing the strike and assured that interests of all sections of employees would be taken care of by the Dharmadhikari Committee. He said the three-member committee would give its report in the next few months. Air India had sacked seven pilots and suspended six others. The Delhi High Court had slapped contempt notices on nine office bearers of the de-recognized ICPA for disobeying its order to call off the strike. The airline has suffered an estimated operational loss of Rs 150 crore.
