In Manipur, normal life has been disrupted today due to a 24-hour general strike called by a militant outfit to protest the arrest of United National Liberation Front Chairman R K Meghen. Though the strike was called by the Kangleipak Communist Party for what it termed as contradictory statements on the arrest of the UNLF chairman, the UNLF itself distanced itself from the general strike. In a statement, the UNLF said it did not support the strike called by the KCP. Markets, shops and business establishments remained closed on account of the strike. Reports had earlier suggested that Meghen had been arrested from Dhaka by a joint intelligence team of India and Bangladesh on September 29. But official sources in Delhi and Manipur said the UNLF chief had been arrested from Motihari district of Bihar on November 30.
