In Jammu and Kashmir, work in the state government offices was paralysed on Tuesday due to one-day token strike by employees in support of their demands. The strike call was given by Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of the State government employees, demanding increase in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years, payment of pending Sixth Pay Commission arrears, regularisation of daily wagers and contractual employees and removal of pay anomalies. The government offices wore a deserted look as employees stayed away from work in response to the strike call. The agitating employees held protest demonstrations at various district headquarters in the region. Reports of employees staying away from work were received from other district and tehsil headquarters also. A senior leader of JCC told reporters in Jammu that the employees would go on another strike on May 8 and 9 in protest against the state government's alleged failure to fulfill their demands.
